Gamma Group 'to reform in days' after brutal leader Slaying
|
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES By LOUIS SASS, crime correspondent
THE notorious meta-human gang known as the 'Gamma group' is said to be on the verge of reforming, Mercury Times can reveal.
Leading members of the formerly defunct group are returning to their former base in Millennium City, according to senior police sources. The so-called 'reunion' is being held after the death of front man Elliot Spiers, better known by his underworld nickname Emerald Dragonet, who was found dead two weeks ago. The Gamma group reunion has raised fears among town hall officials that Millennium City may see the return of other fringe groups that were disbanded following the Hero Registration Program in 1986. Metapolitical analysts had considered that the Gamma Group would become an historical footnote as did most other fringe groups in the 1980s, as a result of the Hero Registration Program. Dragonet took over part of the Omega Group network as it collapsed following that program, and operated it unsuccessfully for several years, as its members refused to be registered, went rogue or were slain.

The last known assembly of members of this group was for the 1983 funeral of Yontan, which was attended by the infamous Stronghold, as well as a number of other unregistered rogue meta-humans.
Sources familiar with Dragonet's estate say it is likely to become mired in legal issues.
Repeated calls by MT reporters to Dempsey, Makepeace and Morse, the law firm representing Dragonet, were not returned before publication.
